MassHealth Premium Assistance (MHPA)
for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

The MassHealth Premium Assistance will no longer be available beginning with the 2020-2021 Academic Year. This means MassHealth will no longer pay for your SHIP plan.

Returning to school in the Fall?

If you are covered by a MassHealth or an ACO plan, you can waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (except if you're enrolled in MassHealth Limited, Health Safety Net, or the Children's Medical Security Plan). If you want to enroll in SHIP, the premium will be added to your student account.

Currently seeing a doctor or other health care provider?

All benefits provided by your SHIP plan will terminate at the end if this policy year. If you have been seeing a provider who currently only accepts BCBS and does not accept any MassHealth plan option, you will need to find a new provider that accepts the MassHealth health plan option you select.

Want to know more?

MassHealth will send you an enrollment package 10 days after your SHIP plan ends. The package will contain important information about your MassHealth health plan options and how to select a MassHealth health plan that is best for you.
