What is a Preferred Provider?

Preferred Providers are the Physicians, Hospitals and other health care providers who have contracted to provide specific medical care at negotiated prices, or a Preferred Allowance. Preferred Providers will accept the Preferred Allowance as payment for Covered Expenses. Preferred Providers in the Georgetown University area are: Student Health Center (SHC), Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), Georgetown University Hospital (GUH), and the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus Network.

How do I find a Preferred Provider?

To reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, access providers according to the following schedule:

  • First, as availability permits, to the Student Health Center (SHC) or Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)
  • Second, to the Georgetown University Hospital and/or UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus Network
  • Third, to all other providers, including Out of Country Providers
