Bowdoin College Peter Buck Health Center

The Peter Buck Health Center at Bowdoin College is committed to promoting the health and well-being of the Bowdoin College students by providing quality primary care and educational outreach services. The Center's approach to student health care is meant to be comprehensive and holistic, and emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and individual self-advocacy. The Health Center's mission is to foster wellness, in the broadest sense, within the College community as a whole.

The Peter Buck Health Center is located on the 3rd floor in the Peter Buck Center for Health & Fitness. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., except Wednesdays when office hours are 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. for acute conditions. There is 24 hour emergency on-call services, accessible through Bowdoin Security at 207/725-3314 while the College is in session. The Center is closed on breaks and during summer. Students are seen by appointment which may be scheduled by calling 207/725-3770.

The Health Center clinical staff consists of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, a registered nurse, and contracted physicians. Most services provided by the Center are paid for by general College fees (notable exceptions are Travel Vaccines and send-out lab tests). Services offered at the Health Center include but are not limited to:

  • Primary care
  • Women's health services
  • Health promotion
  • Some formulary prescription medications
  • Self-care center
  • Office laboratory
  • Allergy injections
  • Travel clinic
  • AIDS/HIV testing
  • Testing for sexually transmitted infections
  • Emergency on-call services
